A Marketing Perspective by Abby

We ended our last day and our last stop of the trip at the lovely abode of Ms. Erin Freel. She talked to us about the way FFA has impacted her life, and how it led her to where she is today. Ms. Freel was always involved in agriculture, she was in 4-H for a period of time and then she was in FFA as well. She figured out what she wanted to do when she grew up when her school took a field trip to the University of Florida during her 10th grade year: Agricultural Communications. Ag Communications is basically spreading the word of agriculture through businesses, advertisements, papers, magazines, websites, social media, or just any means of communicating agriculture to the community. She was extremely involved in FFA and she just loves to spread the word of agriculture and all that it has to offer. At one point she was even a Florida FFA State Officer!

She started her first job right after she graduated high school with the Florida Strawberry Growers Association (FSGA). She became the marketing director of the company and even helped publish the first website as well as writing and distributing magazines/ newspapers. Though, her ultimate goal was to start her own business. So she did just that. "The Market Place" was where she began. Around 4 years ago she got her real estate license and started selling real-estate with Showcase Properties of Central Florida. Her company helped people buy and sell their recreational or farm suited land.

Ms. Freel also shared some life advice to us. She explained how you don’t have to stick with the same thing or the same job all of your life. You are allowed to grow and learn and change, it’s okay! She also stressed to make sure what you are doing you are passionate about. Enjoy what you are doing in life, don’t just make it about the money!

We wrapped up our trip with an agricultural advocate who was enthusiastic about the fact that we went on this trip and are learning about the agricultural community. Though, we do not all have to get an Ag Communications degree to be able to share to the world all that agriculture has to offer.
